Sermon on the Mount- artist unknown

Jesus answered, “My teaching is not my own. It comes from the one who sent me. Anyone who chooses to do the will of God will find out whether my teaching comes from God or whether I speak on my own. Whoever speaks on their own does so to gain personal glory, but he who seeks the glory of the one who sent him is a man of truth; there is nothing false about him. John 7:16-18 New International Version (NIV)

Teachings of Jesus- In Relation to God

Love God with All of Your Heart

“Teacher, which is the greatest commandment in the Law?”

Jesus replied: “‘Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.’ This is the first and greatest commandment. And the second is like it: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself. All the Law and the Prophets hang on these two commandments.” Matthew 22:36-40 New International Version (NIV

“…Be My Follower.”

Jesus replied, “If you want to be perfect, go sell everything you own! Give the money to the poor, and you will have riches in heaven. Then come and be my follower.” Matthew 19:21 Contemporary English Version (CEV)

Do Not Speak Against the Holy Spirit

I promise you that any of the sinful things you say or do can be forgiven, no matter how terrible those things are. But if you speak against the Holy Spirit, you can never be forgiven. That sin will be held against you forever. Mark 3:28-29 Contemporary English Version (CEV)

Riches

Jesus said to his disciples, “It’s terribly hard for rich people to get into the kingdom of heaven! In fact, it’s easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle than for a rich person to get into God’s kingdom.” Matthew 19:23-24 Contemporary English Version (CEV)

Lost Sheep

Let me ask you this. What would you do if you had a hundred sheep and one of them wandered off? Wouldn’t you leave the ninety-nine on the hillside and go look for the one that had wandered away? I am sure that finding it would make you happier than having the ninety-nine that never wandered off. That’s how it is with your Father in heaven. He doesn’t want any of these little ones to be lost. Matthew 18:12-14 Contemporary English Version (CEV)

Your Soul

What will you gain, if you own the whole world but destroy yourself? What would you give to get back your soul? Matthew 16:26 Contemporary English Version (CEV)

Brothers, Sisters, Mothers

Then he looked at the people sitting around him and said, “Here are my mother and my brothers. Anyone who obeys God is my brother or sister or mother.” Mark 3:34-35 Contemporary English Version (CEV)

The Merciful

God blesses those people
who are merciful.
They will be treated
with mercy! Matthew 5:7 Contemporary English Version (CEV)

First and Last

“All who have given up home or brothers and sisters or father and mother or children or land for me will be given a hundred times as much. They will also have eternal life. But many who are now first will be last, and many who are last will be first.” Matthew 19:29-30 Contemporary English Version(CEV)

Pure Hearts

God blesses those people
whose hearts are pure.
They will see him! Matthew 5:8 Contemporary English Version (CEV)

Blessed are Those That Obey Him

God blesses those people
who want to obey Him
more than to eat or drink.
They will be given
what they want! Matthew 5:6 Contemporary English Version (CEV)

Help Everyone In Need

Then the king will say to those on his left, “Get away from me! You are under God’s curse. Go into the everlasting fire prepared for the devil and his angels! I was hungry, but you did not give me anything to eat, and I was thirsty, but you did not give me anything to drink. I was a stranger, but you did not welcome me, and I was naked, but you did not give me any clothes to wear. I was sick and in jail, but you did not take care of me.”

Then the people will ask, “Lord, when did we fail to help you when you were hungry or thirsty or a stranger or naked or sick or in jail?”

The king will say to them, “Whenever you failed to help any of my people, no matter how unimportant they seemed, you failed to do it for me.” Matthew 25:41-45 Contemporary English Version(CEV)

Blessed Are The Humble

God blesses those people
who are humble.
The earth will belong
to them! Matthew 5:5 Contemporary English Version (CEV)

Obey His Teachings

“Anyone who hears and obeys these teachings of mine is like a wise person who built a house on solid rock. Rain poured down, rivers flooded, and winds beat against that house. But it did not fall, because it was built on solid rock.

Anyone who hears my teachings and doesn’t obey them is like a foolish person who built a house on sand. The rain poured down, the rivers flooded, and the winds blew and beat against that house. Finally, it fell with a crash.” Matthew 7:24-27 Contemporary English Version (CEV)

Judging Others

Don’t condemn others, and God won’t condemn you. God will be as hard on you as you are on others! He will treat you exactly as you treat them. Matthew 7:1-2 Contemporary English Version (CEV)

The Narrow Gate

Go in through the narrow gate. The gate to destruction is wide, and the road that leads there is easy to follow. A lot of people go through that gate. But the gate to life is very narrow. The road that leads there is so hard to follow that only a few people find it. Matthew 7:13-14 Contemporary English Version (CEV)

The Poor in Spirit

God blesses those people who depend only on him.
They belong to the kingdom of heaven! Mathew 5:3 Contemporary English Version (CEV)

The Lord’s Prayer

“You should pray like this:

Our Father in heaven,
help us to honor
your name.
Come and set up
your kingdom,
so that everyone on earth
will obey you,
as you are obeyed
in heaven.
Give us our food for today.
Forgive us for doing wrong,
as we forgive others.
Keep us from being tempted
and protect us from evil.” Matthew 6:9-13 Contemporary English Version (CEV)

On Prayer

When you pray, don’t be like those show-offs who love to stand up and pray in the meeting places and on the street corners. They do this just to look good. I can assure you that they already have their reward.

When you pray, go into a room alone and close the door. Pray to your Father in private. He knows what is done in private, and he will reward you. Matthew 6:5-6 Contemporary English Version (CEV)

Not With Him, Against Him

“Whoever is not with me is against me, and whoever does not gather with me scatters. Matthew 12:30 New International Version (NIV)

Telling Others about Christ

If you tell others that you belong to me, I will tell my Father in heaven that you are my followers. But if you reject me, I will tell my Father in heaven that you don’t belong to me. Matthew 10:32-33 Contemporary English Version (CEV)

Believe Prayers Are Answered

Therefore I tell you, whatever you ask for in prayer, believe that you have received it, and it will be yours. And when you stand praying, if you hold anything against anyone, forgive them, so that your Father in heaven may forgive you your sins.” Mark 11:24-25 New International Version (NIV)

Do Not Be Ashamed of Jesus

Don’t be ashamed of me and my message among these unfaithful and sinful people! If you are, the Son of Man will be ashamed of you when he comes in the glory of his Father with the holy angels. Mark 8:38 Contemporary English Version (CEV)

True and False Prophets

“Watch out for false prophets. They come to you in sheep’s clothing, but inwardly they are ferocious wolves. By their fruit you will recognize them. Do people pick grapes from thornbushes, or figs from thistles? Likewise, every good tree bears good fruit, but a bad tree bears bad fruit. A good tree cannot bear bad fruit, and a bad tree cannot bear good fruit. Every tree that does not bear good fruit is cut down and thrown into the fire. Thus, by their fruit you will recognize them.” Matthew 7:15-20 New International Version (NIV)

Serve Your Fellow Man

Murder And Anger Lead To Judgment

“You have heard that it was said to the people long ago, ‘You shall not murder, and anyone who murders will be subject to judgment.’ But I tell you that anyone who is angry with a brother or sister will be subject to judgment….” Matthew 5:21-22 New International Version (NIV)

Greet Strangers

If you greet only your friends, what’s so great about that? Don’t even unbelievers do that? Matthew 5:47 Contemporary English Version (CEV)

Causing One to Stumble

Teachings of Jesus- In Relation to Self

Prepare for Treasures in Heaven

“Do not store up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moths and vermin destroy, and where thieves break in and steal. But store up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where moths and vermin do not destroy, and where thieves do not break in and steal. For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also. Your Needs Will Be Met

So do not worry, saying, ‘What shall we eat?’ or ‘What shall we drink?’ or ‘What shall we wear?’ For the pagans run after all these things, and your heavenly Father knows that you need them. But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well. Matthew 6:31-33 New International Version (NIV)

Commandments To Follow

What Comes Out Defiles

He went on: “What comes out of a person is what defiles them. For it is from within, out of a person’s heart, that evil thoughts come—sexual immorality, theft, murder, adultery, greed, malice, deceit, lewdness, envy, slander, arrogance and folly. All these evils come from inside and defile a person.” Mark 7:20-23 New International Version (NIV)

Do Not Worry

“Therefore I tell you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat or drink; or about your body, what you will wear. Is not life more than food, and the body more than clothes? Look at the birds of the air; they do not sow or reap or store away in barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not much more valuable than they? Can any one of you by worrying add a single hour to your life? Matthew 6:25-27 New International Version (NIV)

Humble Yourself

If you put yourself above others, you will be put down. But if you humble yourself, you will be honored. Matthew 23:12 Contemporary English Version (CEV)

Lose Your Life To Find It

“Anyone who loves their father or mother more than me is not worthy of me; anyone who loves their son or daughter more than me is not worthy of me. Matthew 10:37-39 New International Version (NIV)

Become Humble Like A Child
